Genderqueer Identity Study
I am writing this post to highlight my frustration with a lack of attention that has been given to genderqueer community.
I am a cis-gendered female who identifies as queer and as a genderqueer and trans*-ally. I’ve been a therapist working with the guenderqueer community for years. As I continue to work with genderqueer folks therapeutically, I have realized that the lack of attention within my field (psychology) has been detrimental—people make all sorts of assumptions and force those in therapy to ascribe to a binary identity. This has been beyond frustrating to me.
So, I designed a study where we are interviewing genderqueer individuals—or those who do not identify on the binary—about their identity process and how they make sense of their multiple identities at the same time. We’ve had an amazing response from folks within Louisville, Kentucky. I am hoping that we can extend our study to people who are living in (or around Chicago). We’ve completed interviews in Evansville and Louisville, and we’re slotted to interview individuals in Chicago in June. Anyone who wants to contribute to this cause would be more than welcome—the more voices that are heard about genderqueer identity, the better.
Thank you for reading and wishing all the best,
Stephanie Budge
Organizer's Note: Stephanie has told me that they will be in Chicago starting on June 15th, so there's still plenty of time to sign up.
