Consent is Sexy! - Yes/No/Maybe List

Here is the Yes/No/Maybe list that was mentioned/asked for in tonight's meeting. This is, in my opinion and experience, a tremendously helpful tool for discussing consent and boundaries with someone you are getting romantic or sexual with. Although a lot of this list does deal with sexual boundaries, there are parts of it that aren't which could be useful in discussing boundaries with close friends and family (as well as sexual partners)

Consent and Boundaries: A Safer Space Discussion

Consent is getting and giving permission to do something that may make anyone uncomfortable or a way to offer help that may or may not be needed. Consent can be given for a range of activities, such as holding the door for someone to hugging to getting intimate. A lot of people don't realize how big of a deal consent can be, or rather, how big of a deal crossing a consent boundary can be. They also don't realize how easily it could be prevented in the first place.

Has there been a time when someone crossed your boundaries or done something without asking for consent? How did you respond? How did it make you feel? Did it ruin the rest of the time you shared with that person afterward? Most importantly, did you tell them how it made you feel?

Has there been a time when you crossed another person's boundaries or not asked for consent before doing something (accidentally or not)? How did they respond? How did you respond?

How do you set boundaries with people you interact with?

Join us for a safer space discussion on consent and boundaries! Also, feel free to check out this submission to the GqC blog titled Consent and Boundaries!

Academia: A Safer Space Discussion

College can be a more comfortable place to explore gender and sexuality, and a large portion of queer theory comes from its halls. Alternately, academia can be about people rather than for them, insulated from the 'real world' and privilege theory over lived experience. It can be completely unavailable or essentially required (while still perhaps requiring extreme debt). Has it helped or hindered you, why did you chose to go or not to go (if it was even a choice at all)? How might this have changed? Enroll in our discussion section.
