Marriage: A Safe Space Discussion

34

The battle for "same-sex marriage" isn't new by any means, but it's popularly discussed as "gay marriage" and ignores other types of relationships and identities such as queer, gender-variant, trans, poly, asexual etc. Let's discuss this old topic with a fresh perspective which incorporates our own identities or those of ones we love.

Why do some advocate for marriage so fiercely and others couldn't care less? Do you want the right to marry? How would you choose to commit to a significant other? Do you feel that the quest for "same-sex" marriage includes you? What alternatives have some sought instead of marriage?

See you there!

Genderqueer Chicago is as safe a space as we can make it. To help with this, we have some working agreements that we would like all who come to meetings to keep in mind while within our safe space meetings. Please check out our working agreements here.

Safe space meetings are strictly closed to researchers and reporters in their professional capacities. Meetings are open to anyone else wanting to talk and think about gender! For more info, give us a shout at genderqueerchicago@gmail.com!
